ABS-CBN is Nationwide Primetime Leader for the Month of April 2012

Posted on May 4, 2012 | 10:10 AM

ABS-CBN keeps its stronghold on primetime TV, the most important part of the day for both viewers and advertisers, last April, based on data from the global industry-trusted multinational audience research group Kantar Media.

Kantar Media, which has national panel size of 1,370 homes and 7,535 individuals that are statistically representative of total Philippine TV population, reported that overall, ABS-CBN enjoyed the highest audience share in total day among all TV networks with 35.1% of Philippine households watching its shows.

ABS-CBN hit an average audience share of 42.1% nationwide last month, excluding the Holy Week, on primetime from 6PM to 12 MN when most Filipinos spend time watching TV and advertisers put their investments to reach more consumers efficiently, higher by 12.7-points than its rival network GMA’s 29.4%. In Metro Manila, ABS-CBN’s average audience share for primetime reached 35.4%, beating GMA’s 32.6%.

Across other territories, ABS-CBN remains to be the network of choice by most Filipino homes on primetime as it again topped in Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila) with 45.4% share vs GMA’s 30.4%. ABS-CBN ruled the Visayas with 55.8% share vs GMA’s 18.7% and pulled away further in Mindanao with 59.4% share vs GMA’s 15.5%.

ABS-CBN’s primetime leadership is still driven by the success of its top-caliber drama series. Its primetime series “Walang Hanggan” topped all programs in Metro Manila, Mega Manila, and national TV ratings. It averaged 34.6% in terms of TV ratings across the country.

Recently concluded “E-Boy” (30.2%) came in second while newly launched royal drama especially shot in Bhutan, “Princess and I,” instantly rose to the third spot with an average national TV rating of 28.8% after debuting last April 16.

“MMK” remains to be the most watched program on weekends and ranking fourth in overall tally with 28.6%, while the 25-year-old flagship primetime news program “TV Patrol” is still the number one newscast in the country with 22.9% in TV ratings.

Overall, eleven out of the top 15 programs for April are produced by ABS-CBN. Other Kapamilya shows in the list include “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” (24.7%), “Wansapanataym” (23.6%), “Rated K” (20.5%), “Kapamilya Deal or No Deal” (20.1%), “Toda Max” (19.1%), and “Sarah G Live” (18.5%).

Based on Kantar Media’s report, ABS-CBN garnered an average audience share of 35.1% in total day with rival GMA Network placing second with 33.7% share.

ABS-CBN registered a net income of P2.4 billion for the full year 2011, while news media reported that GMA Network net income plummeted P1.72 billion in the same period.

Kantar Media, a multinational market research group that specializes in audience measurement in more than 80 countries, has 22 TV networks, ad agencies, and pan-regional networks subscribing to its ratings services. Among its current subscribers are ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court contrary to claims by GMA, which is not a party to the case, that it has been resolved.

Slater Young Makes Acting Debut

Posted on April 13, 2012 | 1:06 AM

After recently winning the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited, Slater Young is now ready to show his talent in acting as he appears as a guest star in the finale of ABS-CBN’s top-rating Primetime teleserye “E-Boy.”

While his guest role in the series is yet to be revealed, Slater expressed his excitement on his Twitter account saying “All of this is so new to me. Exhausted but happy.”

Just like Slater, young actress Jessy Mendiola will also be a guest star in the series finale.

Meanwhile, on “E-Boy’s” last episode, tension arises as Gabriel (Ariel Rivera) faces his evil brother Miguel (Jomari Yllana). Where will Miguel’s anger and jealousy take him? Will Gabriel’s family finally be complete? Is E-Boy ready to sacrifice himself for his family?

“E-Boy” is a part of ABS-CBN’s “Bida Best Kid” campaign launched recently that aims to empower children by encouraging them to become who they want to be and the best that they can be. It doesn’t only entertain and educate its young viewers with its values-oriented, child-friendly programs, but supports their dreams and aspirations as well.

Don’t miss final week of “E-Boy” weeknights after “TV Patrol” on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida. For more updates log on to www.abs-cbn.com or follow @abscbndotcom on Twitter.

Daniel Padilla Gives Kathryn Bernardo a Necklace

Posted on April 11, 2012 | 2:58 PM

Young Kapamilya hearthrob Daniel Padilla gave his Princess and I leading lady Kathryn Bernardo a necklace on the latter's 16th birthday. Kathryn, herself confirmed this in an interview with Push.com.ph.

Kathryn related that the necklace daniel gave him had a peace sign in it which she liked so much.

"Parang accessories lang talaga na may peace sign. Gusto ko ng peace sign, so sabi niya 'sige sa iyo na lang.' So binigay niya sa akin last two weeks ago."

Kathryn turned 16 last March 26 and Daniel also gave the Princess and I lead star a box of chocolates and guess what? LOVE.

"Binigyan ko si Kat ng tsokolate at saka pagmamahal," said Daniel in one interview.

Daniel Padilla has been very vocal with his interest on Kathryn. Recently in The Buzz, Daniel confessed that what he felt for Kathryn yet he's not quite sure if that feling is already love.

“Di ko po alam pero ngayon ko lang po naramdaman ito sa isang babae,” said Daniel to host Boy Abunda.

Daniel said that he always make Kathryn feel so important by treating her like a real princess on the set since they don't have the chance to talk personally about his true feelings for the young lady. He said there's no need since he is very vocal with it in numerous interviews.

“Alam naman po niya na gusto ko talaga siya. Siguro nararamdman naman niya.”

When asked by Tito Boy of Kathryn's reaction on his being vocal about his feelings with her, Daniel said, “Wala naman po pero siyempre nakita ko naman na natutuwa naman pero ‘di niya ipinapakita na gusto na niya ako.”

Daniel also revealed in his The Buzz live interview that as a newbie in the industry, he needed some sort of inspiration for work and that inspiration is Kathryn. How sweet!

Daniel and Kathryn are now busy promoting their teleserye, Princess and I which will premiere this April 16 on ABS-CBN Primetime Bida replacing E-boy.

'E-boy' Bids Goodbye, 'Princess and I' Says Hello

Posted on March 30, 2012 | 11:21 PM

ABS-CBN's robot-serye, E-boy is down on its last 2 weeks.

E-boy which stars Bugoy Carino, Ariel Rivera, Jomari Yllana, Agot Isidro and Deydey Amansec will be airing its finale episode this coming April 13.

On its last two weeks, the plot thickens as Gabriel (played by Ariel Rivera) had created a new robot which will compete against E-boy.

The said series started airing January 2012 and in a span of two months, E-boy had captured the hearts of young and adults. The kids will surely miss this metal chum.

Meanwhile, there's nothing to be sad about. When someone says goodbye, somebody will eventually say hello. Come April 16, we will witness the grand coronation of a princess with the premiere episode of ABS-CBN's The Princess and I starring Primetime Royalties Kathryn Bernardo, Albert Martinez and Gretchen Barretto along with the 3 Princes of primetime, Enrique Gil, Daniel Padilla and Khalil Ramos.

Hold on to E-boy's last journey starting Monday, April 8 after TV Patrol. On April 16, welcome a princess at your homes and be amazed with the Kingdom of Yangdon as The Princess and I airs its pilot episode, replacing E-boy.
